South Viking Avenue Improvements

Phase 3A of the South Viking Avenue Improvements project is nearing completion. The project has been slightly behind schedule due to unanticipated site conditions, but will be completed by the first part of September. The next phase of improvements, Phase 3B, will begin September 7th. Phase 3B starts at the end of Phase 3A and extends south down Viking Avenue to the South City Limits. Due to different funding sources, Phase 3A and 3B could not be constructed at the same time and were bid as separate construction contracts. Phase 3A was funded by the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the stimulus act) and Phase 3B was funded in part by The Washington State Public Works Board. Both projects include construction of a new center turn lane, street lights, sidewalks, bike lanes, sewer and water main extensions, storm drainage improvements and landscaping. The total cost for Phase 3A is $850,000 and total cost for Phase 3B is $780,000.

We appreciate your patience as these projects proceed. Traffic delays can be expected through the end of October and Viking Avenue will be reduced to one-way traffic most weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Please contact the Engineering Department at 360-779-5111 or e-mail the Engineering Department if you have questions, comments or concerns.
