Poulsbo’s Planning and Economic Development Department staff are your resource for questions related to land use and economic development within the city.

Mission: To partner with the community, residents, elected officials, and private entities to promote Poulsbo’s charm, character, and livability. This is achieved through sustainable comprehensive planning, efficient permit review and processing, and deliberate economic development strategies.

PED Department News

  • 2024 Comprehensive Plan Update Draft EIS Release. The City of Poulsbo is pleased to release this Draft EIS, which required additional time in order to complete appropriate and desired capital facilities planning and evaluation. The City will select a preferred alternative based upon this DEIS in March 2025. The preferred alternative may include or combine elements from each alternative as presented in this DEIS. The City of Poulsbo is requesting comments from citizens, agencies, affected tribes, and all interested parties on the DEIS from January 17, 2025, to February 18, 2025. Comments are due by 4:30 PM on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. Documents and contact info can be found here.

  • Temporary Sign Sweep. At the direction of Mayor Erickson, Public Works staff will conduct a sweep of illegal temporary signs starting Monday, January 27th. What are temporary signs? Any sign, banner, pennant, valance or advertising display intended to be displayed for only a limited amount of time. Temporary signs are not allowed to continually advertise goods, services, or events on a site. You can review the Temporary Sign handout here. Not sure if your sign is considered illegal?   • New Requirement for “Proposed Development Project” Sign. The City Council approved a code amendment on 9/18/24 to require a large (4.5′ X 4′) sign to be erected on the site of properties proposed for development (for Type II and III permits only).   • if you are unsure, go to Kitsap County Parcel search to confirm that you are within the City of Poulsbo.
  • If you are outside of city limits, please contact Kitsap County DCD.

2. Determine if another City Department would be more appropriate for your inquiry.
